Revamping playtime: Balmoral School overcomes drainage woes with a seamless playground update.
Liz Oorthuis, the Executive Officer at Balmoral School, Auckland reached out to Park Supplies & Playgrounds to explore options for improving the surfacing and drainage around their senior playground area.
Initially considering a matting and drainage solution, it became evident that the
aging playground required a more comprehensive update. A productive conversation with Jen Mullins, Sales Manager at Park Supplies & Playgrounds, evolved into a full playground project, incorporating new equipment, surfacing and extensive drainage.
Liz also expressed a desire to increase the playground’s footprint to provide additional space for children to walk and play. Liz and Jen collaborated to select suitable playground equipment, settling on “The Baradino” structure and an Orex Spinner unit from Park Supplies & Playgrounds’ Play Catalogue.
The senior playground site presented challenges, due to an existing asphalt surface surrounding it that had been previously damaged by other contractors. The Park Supplies & Playgrounds’ installation team had to be extremely cautious while removing the old playground and woodchip and transporting the equipment onsite.
Despite the site challenges, the collaboration between Balmoral School and Park Supplies & Playgrounds proved seamless. Conversations began merely two weeks before the school holidays, and the installation process began the week after the break. The installation team worked tirelessly to ensure the new playground was installed within eight weeks, and the playground was ready for student use soon after the holidays.
