Papatoetoe North School Case Study
Papatoetoe North Primary School Case Study
Park Supplies has been working with Peter Conroy (Principal) at Papatoetoe North School since 2011. We were awarded the project of renewing the then very tired Junior playground. The project included the removal the old equipment and surface and to design and install a new playground complete with rubber matting.
In 2017 were asked again to submit a design proposal for the new Senior playground. It was an entirely new play area planned with a new classroom build with the MoE in 2018. We then met with both Peter Conroy (Principal) and Graeme Brown (School Asset Manager) to discuss some preliminary playground concepts. The overwhelming feedback was MORE CHALLENGE, MORE HEIGHT!
We delivered the final concept with the most challenging senior upper body climbing activities and the highest platforms possible to meet the NZS5828:2015 playground standard. The Mega Net structure is at a towering 2.7mtr height. As a result the safety surface then needed to conform with this corresponding height. For that reason we installed a Play Mattas Rubber matting tile surface. With an increased shock-pad than conforms to meet impact attenuation of the fall height.
An amazing spiral tube slide is no doubt the most striking feature of this playground. It is vital to egress the children down from the high platform end of this playground. Another thrilling play element is our HUGE Orex climbing spinning cone which is very popular with the kids. The only regret from Peter Conroy is he said ‘’it is so popular, we should have brought two!’’
This playground delivers all of our most popular play elements for senior kids. Due to the emphasis on height and upper body climbing with many dynamic play activities. The colours are also what gives this playground real oomph, featuring our ‘’bubblegum’’ colour scheme.
"We are thrilled with how the children are using the new playground, groups of children who would usually chose more sedentary activities at playtime are enticed to use the equipment. In all ways the new playground has exceeded our expectations."
